Ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis
Isis was known as the Goddess of healing, magic and resurrection.
Great mother goddess; Magical healer and protector.
A brief summary of Ancient Egyptian Mythology :
Osiris & Isis; Husband & wife, brother & sister.
God & Goddess rulers of Egypt.
Brother Seth, fueled with jealously kills Osiris;
dismembering his corpse and dispersing throughout all of Egypt.
Sister Nephthys helps Isis retrieve all of the parts for resurrection.
Partially successful, they bring Osiris halfway to life.
Alive enough to impregnant Isis with son, Horus;
but he is unable to be revived to rejoin the living.
Isis evokes her powers to create a realm for him to dwell in.
This became the afterlife; the place where lost souls journey onwards.
Isis becomes a winged goddess, bringing fresh air
to the underworld as she guides departed souls to the afterlife.
-Archaeological discoveries of mentions of Isis date back to the 18th Dynasty. (1550/1549 to 1292 BC)
-It is said that Isis’ tears for Osiris attribute to the annual Nile floods.
-Isis wears a solar disc headdress
-She was known to be worshipped in the Roman Empire and amongst the Ancient Greeks.
-A remarkably well preserved temple dedicated to Isis was discovered in Pompeii.
-Her name translates to “Queen of the Throne.”
